Host LMS locations

Host library management system (LMS) locations in ReShare represent your library’s locations. ReShare allows you to manage these locations by setting supplying priorities across locations, blocking locations from lending, and configuring overrides to block certain Host LMS location/shelving locations from lending.

Data sources

Locations are created in two possible ways.

Z39.50 auto-responder

If you use the Z39.50 auto-responder to reply to requests, ReShare will automatically pull in the name of each LMS location provided and store it in the Host LMS locations table. This happens in real time as requests are placed. Locations are given a supplying priority of 0 when initially added to the Host LMS shelving locations table.

Manually

If you do not use the Z39.50 auto-responder to reply to requests AND you wish to designate a location value when marking a request “will supply” you can manually add a new location to the Host LMS locations table

NOTE: Although Host LMS locations can be added manually when you use the Z39.50 auto-responder to reply to requests, it is recommended that users allow the auto-responder to automatically add the locations to the Host LMS locations table to guarantee that the value added to the Host LMS location code field is exactly as it is returned from Z39.50.

Responding “will supply”

If you manually respond “will supply” to a request, the value you enter in the Location field will come from a drop down list of the values configured in the Host LMS locations table that have a supplying priority greater than or equal to 0. If no locations are configured in the Host LMS locations table or all entries have a supplying priority of -1, the Location field will not display in the Respond “Will Supply” window.

Host LMS locations settings

You can manage Host LMS locations by going to Settings>Resource Sharing>Host LMS locations.

The setting provides you with a table of locations to which you can add various parameters.

Supplying priority

The supplying priority determines which item will be selected to lend if items are available in multiple locations. The priorities work as follows:

  • Locations with negative priorities will not be used to supply.

  • Locations with priorities greater than or equal to 0 will be chosen starting with the highest number.

  • Locations with equal priorities will be chosen at random, if their priority is the highest.

  • If the priority is left blank, it will default to 0.

Related directory entry

Each location can be related to a directory entry. When the location is chosen for a supplied item, the shipping code of the related directory entry will be included on the pull slip (if available).

Shelving override

Indicates whether a shelving location override has been applied to the Host LMS location. If the combination of the Host LMS location code + shelving location is not lendable, this can be configured by clicking on the three dots in Actions.

When adding a shelving location override to a Host LMS location, the user will be presented initially with a list of any shelving locations that were added in conjunction with the addition of the Host LMS location (part of the same holding record) By default the system considers the pair as lendable. To mark the pair not lendable, the user would set the supplying priority to -1. If there are other shelving locations to be added to this Host LMS location as non lendable, they can be chosen by clicking the Create button and choosing another shelving location from the list.

Actions

Clicking the pencil icon will allow you to edit the priority and related directory entry.

Clicking the trash can icon allows the Host LMS location to be removed from the list. If the Host LMS location is associated with a request, the Host LMS location will not be deleted but hidden from display. The next time the Host LMS location is returned by the Z39.50 auto-responder response it will re-display in the list with the same settings it had before it was “hidden”.

Clicking the three dots icon will allow you to add, update or remove a shelving location override to the Host LMS location.

Note for Libraries sharing an LMS

The Host LMS location table at libraries that share an LMS will include locations from all libraries, as the Z39.50 auto-responder will return results from all locations in its database. Set the supplying priority to -1 for any Host LMS locations that belong to other libraries.
