Host LMS patron profiles

Host library management system (LMS) patron profiles, also known as patron or borrow types, represent the various profiles used in your LMS to categorize patrons. ReShare allows you to manage the ability for a patron to place a request in ReShare based on their profile.

Note: In Release 1.8 the check on patron profile will only occur when staff submit a request on behalf of a patron through the Request app. Release 1.9 will support the validation of a patron’s profile / blocking the placing a request when a patron attempts to place a request through discovery (e.g. VuFind).

Data sources

Patron profiles are created in two possible ways:

NCIP LookupUser response

If you use the NCIP LookUpUser message or API to validate patrons in ReShare, the patron’s profile output in the NCIP LookupUser response will be automatically added to the Host LMS patron profiles table. This happens in real time as requests are placed.

Patron profiles added for the first time into the Host LMS patron profiles table are given a NULL value for the ‘Create requests in ReShare?” field. This gives the patron the ability to create a request in ReShare the first time. Staff can be alerted to the fact that a new patron profile has been added to their Host LMS patron profile table and edit the Create requests in ReShare? value to the appropriate value for the patron profile.

Manually

NOTE: Although the patron profiles returned in the NCIP LookupUser response can be added manually, it is recommended that users allow the NCIP response to automatically add the patron profiles to the Host LMS patron profiles table to guarantee that the value added to the Patron profile code field is exactly as it is returned from NCIP.

Host LMS patron profiles settings

You can manage Host LMS patron profiles by going to Settings>Resource Sharing>Host LMS patron profiles.

The setting provides you with a table of patron profiles to allow you to configure which profiles can create requests in ReShare.

Patron profile

This field will contain the same value as the patron profile code returned by the NCIP LookupUser response when a new patron profile is added to a tenant’s list. This field is editable and the default code can be changed to a more descriptive name if desired.

Patron profile code

This field will contain the exact value returned by the NCIP LookupUser response when a new patron profile is added to a tenant’s list. Once added to the list by the NCIP LookupUser response, this field becomes non-editable.

Can create requests?

A in this field indicates that the patron profile is permitted to place requests in ReShare.

An in this field indicates that the patron profile is not permitted to place requests in ReShare.

An empty field (null value) indicates that the patron profile was newly added to the tenant’s list. The patron profile is permitted to place requests in ReShare until updated by a staff user to indicate otherwise. Newly added patron profiles are left blank to help staff visualize those profiles that have yet to be configured in ReShare.

Actions

Clicking the pencil icon will allow you to edit the Patron profile and Can create requests? fields. The Patron profile code is non-editable.

Clicking the trash can icon allows the patron profile to be removed from the list. If the patron profile is associated with a request, the patron profile will not be deleted but hidden from display. The next time the patron profile is returned by the NCIP LookupUser response it will re-display in the list with the same settings it had before it was “hidden”.
