Technical Lead
OVERVIEW
Technical lead for systems analysis and programming personnel assigned to the Kuali Open Library Environment (KOLE). Responsible for systems development as directed by the Kuali Foundation for the Kuali Open Library Environment which includes circulation, cataloging, physical and electronic acquisitions and api’s for a variety of external applications in support of the Kuali OLE community and its partners. Provide technical guidance to OLE and Kuali community partners through a variety of councils, memberships and workgroups. Participates in the development of project planning and estimating for OLE systems development, conducts research, evaluates alternatives, and proposes solutions for ongoing sustainability of the Kuali community software. Provide development estimates and documentation for these proposals.
Provide technical leadership in design, development, standardization and best practices of robust and reliable enterprise-scale web applications. Coordinate activities of OLE technical resources which may include project, contracted and partner staff. Establish priorities for tasks to ensure development and implementation of projects happen on time. Plans, organizes, and assigns work activities of technical staff and provide periodic performance evaluations of OLE resources when appropriate. Reviews, evaluates, and approves proposed modifications and design specifications. Responsible for the coordination and collaboration of technical activities associated with OLE software development and other Kuali community activities and resources, such as Rice, KFS, Configuration Management and partner support as directed by the OLE governing bodies.
OLE Operations Manager-0.5 FTE
OVERVIEW
Plan and implement meetings and activities for Kuali OLE, including complex scheduling, logistics, travel arrangements, and technological needs. Coordinate activities, meetings, and schedules of the Kuali Project Manager, the Kuali OLE boards and councils, management and working teams. Manages and coordinates pertinent calendars. Manage all administrative operations of the Kuali OLE project. Serve as primary support to Project Directors and Project Managers. Assist with administration and monitoring of progress against the project plans.
Manages financial activities associated with Kuali OLE. Work in conjunction with OLE leadership and Kuali Foundation staff to ensure adherence to relevant Kuali Bylaws and Indiana University policies. Prepare monthly financial reports for the Project Directors, Project Managers and Kuali OLE leadership. Attends meetings of the Kuali OLE councils and team meetings, as requested, and records, organizes, and tracks related notes and action items. These meetings may be on-site, virtual, or off-site.
Communications Business Analyst -1.0 FTE
OVERVIEW
Act as the communications business analyst for the Kuali Open Library Environment (KOLE). Responsible for aiding the communication team in promoting the Kuali Open Library Environment through a variety of World Wide Web outlets; this includes wiki maintenance for inter-project communications, updating and enhancing the OLE portion of the Kuali.org public website, creating blog posts and promoting development updates. Responsible for planning, creating, editing and monitoring documentation, including but not limited to user documentation and release documentation. Responsible for aiding the QA manager in testing the environment and providing feedback. Responsible for a variety of administrative tasks to assist the Kuali OLE project community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in library science or IT related field and one year experience as a business analyst on IT or library sciences projects.
- Combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Previous experience working in a team environment comprised of technical and functional staff with varying levels of skills and responsibility. Ability to understand, apply, interpret, and translate technical concepts and transform them into them into usable documentation for non-technical users and demonstrated ability to prepare detailed written instructions and documentation as well as other types of business documents such as procedures, templates, form, and instructions as necessary by the Kuali OLE project.
- Superior skills in the usage of the English language including grammar, punctuation and spelling; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within a diverse university environment. This includes working with community source partners consisting of large research institutions, large and small private institutions, and small community colleges.
- Experience with and knowledge of Google Documents/Google Drive, MS Windows, MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel. Experience and knowledge of Atlassian Jira and Confluence, Drupal, Gliffy, Balsamiq, Webex, and Skype. Understanding of library processes including circulation, cataloging, and physical and electronic acquisitions; demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies; and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Implementation Consultant-1.0 FTE
OVERVIEW
The OLE Implementation Consultant will work directly with current and prospective project partners to assist in the planning for and implementation of Kuali OLE software at their institutions. The individual will be performing consultative and technical business analyst functions and will work with other OLE project members, particularly the Project Manager and the Director of Community Development, to identify candidate partners. The Consultant will execute a series of onsite and remote engagements that result in the successful preparation for and future implementation of OLE as an enterprise system. This individual provides business analysis, consultation, and configuration recommendations prior to and during implementations; drafts templates for data migration planning and implementation decision-making, and works with Kuali Community Affiliates (KCAs) to respond to requests for information (rfis) and requests for proposals (rfps). This position requires a strong functional understanding of extant automated library systems and other enterprise infrastructure platforms in higher education; outstanding assessment, problem solving, and communication skills; and the ability to manage client expectations while forging a strong bond based on commitment and trust. Well-developed leadership and collaboration skills are also critical.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Success in this role will be measured by performance on the following responsibilities:
Primary
- Collaborate with OLE project members, project application developers, open source communities, and project partner representatives to support both single-institution and consortial-style implementations.
- Collaborate with Kuali Commercial Affiliates (KCAs) to respond to requests or proposals from prospective partners.
- Analyze prospective client functional requirements; prepare recommendations on optimal functional configuration to suit the institution’s or consortia’s needs.
- Perform fit/gap analysis with regard to system functionality; document findings and propose workarounds.
- Prepare documentation focusing particularly on data/library systems migration requirements and specifications.
- Advise, assist, and coordinate project partner stakeholders in anticipation of a complete implementation lifecycle.
- Perform outreach and ambassadorial functions at academic library conference and educational events, representing the OLE project and recruiting prospective participants and partners.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current and future releases (version changes and enhancements) of Kuali OLE.
- Lead an Implementation Workgroup which addresses implementation challenges, coordination and lessons learned for contribution to future implementations.
Secondary
- Contribute to the composition and maintenance of OLE documentation and learning materials by providing content, review, and feedback.
- Assist the project team in responding to client inquiries regarding errors, problems, and questions on the use of the OLE system.
- Advise clients on best practices for accomplishing their particular objectives within the product’s framework.
- Promote interaction among partner institutions by leading and monitoring implementation focused online discussion groups, user meetings, etc.
- Participate in OLE Project meetings, teams, and projects.
