Each library participating in ReShare will be assigned a symbol within the ReShare namespace. Symbols are stored on the library’s Directory profile.

Symbols have the following requirements:

  • Symbols must be unique within the ReShare namespace – that means they must be unique within all of ReShare, not just a single consortium.

  • Symbols must be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 characters.

  • Libraries can reuse symbols from other resource sharing systems (OCLC, national libraries, other consortial programs) as long as they meet the requirements for ReShare symbols.

ReShare profiles can also contain symbols for other namespaces to support future interoperability.

  • No labels
