Several entities in GOKb include the ability to assign alternate names. These entities include Organizations, Packages, Platforms and Titles. (The Platform record will be revised to include this functionality in release 3. 5.) Alternate names should be added to address variant titles (e.g., a title with and without a subtitle), misspellings or minor errors, acronyms, foreign language translations, and other alternatives to the authorized title. Do not use alternate names to address major name changes, which should be handled with the creation of a new entity.
Note that the above components do not allow direct editing of the name field. To assign or change a name (even for a brand new component), you must use the steps below.
Adding a new alternate name
- In GOKb, navigate to the appropriate record.
- On a Platform or Organization record, navigate to the "Alternate names" tab. On a Title record, look for the "Alternate Titles" section of the "Title Details" tab.
- Populate the new alternate name fields:
- New alternate name: The new name you're adding
- Locate(Optional): The country that this name is associated with (if any). This can be left blank.
- Variant type(Optional): The type of variant (if applicable). This can be left blank.
- Click add.
