Review reliability of find virtual patron algorithm in Polaris

Description

Goal

  1. Improve the reliability of how we find virtual patrons in Polaris.

  2. Step towards understanding the viability of virtual patron deletion in Polaris.

Findings:

In Scope

  • Polaris LMS only

  • Define how we currently find virtual patron in Polaris

  • Define how we currently create (unique) virtual patrons in Polaris, such that we can identify them reliably later

  • Identify possible data anomalies that are resulting in

    • missed: we don't find a patron that is there (resulting in duplicate patron error -3259)

    • ambiguous matches: we find multiple patrons

    • false positives: we find the wrong patron

  • Identify gaps in our algorithm to find virtual patron that reduces the matching anomalies

  • Identify opportunities for improved diagnostics

  • Assess viability of virtual patron deletion

  • Identify appropriate query to determine all DCB virtual patrons in local systems, and whether they have in-flight requests.

  • Determine additional characteristics needed to supplement virtual patron search to support reliable deletion.

Out of scope

  • Other LMS

  • Changes to the existing algorithm

  • Virtual patron deletion
