This TIPP was not present when ingesting a package update. Please check to see if it should be deleted. TIPP Not present when performing package update

Description

This review task is generated when an existing GOKb package contains a TIPP is that not present in a subsequent update package in OpenRefine. You will need to do some preliminary research to find out whether or not the TIPP is still part of a package.

Solution

  1. Conduct preliminary research to determine whether the TIPP is still part of a package.
  2. You may wish to consult the following resources:
    1. The publisher's website for the TIPP (the URL found on the TIPP record in GOKb). Often the publisher's website will have details about a transfer or cessation of a title.
    2. The Transfer Notification Blog. If the title is transferring to another publisher, you may find information about it here.
    3. The ISSN Portal or Ulrichs. These resources will often have information about cessations and publisher changes.
    4. The publisher's representative: If a situation is unclear, you can contact the publisher to ask them what is happening with a title.
  3. Finish processing according to the appropriate scenario below.

The TIPP is still part of the package, but has been left off of the publisher's title list

This is probably the the most common scenario. Publishers will often leave certain titles off of their lists – including earlier titles and ceased titles. If a TIPP has closed coverage dates in GOKb, that's often a good sign that a TIPP falls into this situation. If you cannot find any evidence that a TIPP is leaving a package, you can simply close the review task and move on.

Example: Acta radiologica. Diagnosis

In this case, the title is the earlier version of a currently published title, Acta Radiologica. Because Sage doesn't include earlier versions of titles on its update lists, we can assume this title was added to GOKb manually by someone doing title history work. You should not delete this title because it is correct and valuable. However, it will continue to produce review tasks each time the package is updated. As you get more comfortable with your package, you may be able to close review tasks for earlier titles with little investigation.

The TIPP has been discontinued from the package going forward

The scenario can occur for many reasons:

  • A title can cease entirely, meaning that no new content will be added for any of its TIPPs
  • A title can transfer to another publisher, but the old publisher will continue to host all content from before the transfer
  • A title can transfer to another publisher, and all of its content will be hosted by the new publisher.
  • A title can remain with its current publisher, but just leave a particular package (this often happens when a title goes OA)
  • An aggregator may drop a title from its collection and discontinue all access

In this scenario, follow the steps below:

  1. If any content remains with the package, populate the End Date, End Volume, and End Issue fields on the TIPP using the last issue available on the publisher's site to provide this information.
  2. Set the TIPP status to Retired. This will tell other users that this TIPP is no longer available.
  3. Set the Access End Date to the date the title was discontinued from the package.

Note: If the title is transferring to another publisher, you may wish to use the Title Transfer action to handle all of its TIPPs in bulk and create TIPPs for the new publisher.

Example: Journal of Fire Protection Engineering

A look at this title showed that GOKb had a current TIPP for this title in the "Sage: All Titles" package. The TIPP had open coverage dates. However, it was missing from the latest Sage update file. A notice on the Sage web site for this title said that it was being transferred to another publisher. Sage continued to host past issues of the title, and the last issue available on the Sage web site was the November 2013 issue. The correct action is to close out the TIPP coverage information as described above.
