This page describes how to configure and work with loan to borrow ratios for an active ReShare tenant. For more general information about how the load balancing process works, see Load balancing algorithm.
Configuring goal loan to borrow ratio
Each library can define its own loan-to-borrow ratio using the Directory app. By default, the goal ratio will be 1:1 unless changed.
To change the loan-to-borrow ratio:
Navigate to the Directory app.
Open your library’s institution-level directory entry. This will be the entry with a type of “Institution.”
Choose Actions>Edit.
Open the Custom properties accordion and scroll to the bottom of the page to view the “ILL loan to borrow ratio” field.
Enter a loan to borrow ratio in the format:
x:x
.Click “Update directory entry” to save.
Viewing load balancing details for a specific request
If you are trying to verify loan to borrow ratio details or troubleshoot load balancing problems, it can be helpful to view the load balancing details for a specific request.
Note that load balancing is done on the requester side for all the potential suppliers of a request. For this reason, troubleshooting supplier issues will require access to the requesting system. For this reason, service providers and consortial administrators are best positioned to investigate problems in this area.
If you are working with a supplying request, first perform these steps:
Log into the tenant of the supplying library.
Look for a recent request or a request that you suspect has a load balancing problem.
Identify the requester in the transaction
Log into the requester’s tenant and perform the steps below.
To view the load balancing details for a request:
Log into the ReShare and open the Request app.
Open the request you want to work with and navigate to the Details tab.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and expand the “Developer view” accordion.
Use CTRL+F to search for “rota.”
You will see an entry in JSON format for each supplier in the rota.
Each entry will include a load balancing reason that lists the ratio being used, the number of actual borrowing, target lending, actual lending, and load balancing score.
